Benefits of Spinach

Packed full of vitamin

Spinach is an excellent source of calcium, magnesium, and iron. It also serves as an excellent source of vitamins A, B6 and C and niacin and folate. This is far from a complete list of all the important elements that spinach brings to healthy bodies. Another significant fact about spinach is that it has a very low amount of salt.

As good as a gym for muscle building

Spinach contains a compound called Factor C0-Q10 that has muscle-strengthening properties. This could help muscles develop, but scientists find that it is especially beneficial for the heart muscles. C0-Q10 is already in use for certain heart issue treatments.

The vegetable that helps improve vision

If you ask people to name a vegetable that is good for eyesight, the carrot is the one they are most probably going to mention. Folk tradition contains the belief that carrots help you see in the dark, but maybe spinach has comparable properties. Researchers have discovered that it contains lutein and other elements that protect against vision loss. There is scientific evidence that eating spinach can stop the progress of the Macular Degeneration (AMD) that damages the vision of people lacking this nutrient.

Good for anyone prone to stomach ulcers

Diet changes can lower the chance of stomach ulcers. Spinach is one of several vegetables that someone who often suffers from stomach ulcers ought to start eating regularly. It includes compounds that guard the stomach’s mucous membrane against damage, and this reduces the possibility of getting an ulcer. Spinach eaters also benefit because its glycoglycerolipid chemicals help to toughen the lining of the digestive tract and this reduces the risks of getting inflammations in this area.

Maintains Youth

People have vainly sought for thousands of years an elixir of life to keep them young looking. Spinach does possess some anti-aging properties. The generous amounts of antioxidants in a portion of spinach improve the body’s capabilities to resist the attacks of free radical compounds against cell tissue. Thus it is possible to protect the skin against damage and retain a more youthful appearance that much longer.

Helps to keep hair healthy

The nutrients and antioxidants derived from eating spinach have a key role in maintaining hair condition. In particular, its calcium, potassium, iron and magnesium minerals combine with vitamins B, C, and E to promote healthy hair. The boost to iron levels also removes one of the more common hair issues. Also, spinach helps combat hair issues because its folate content enables the body to produce more red blood cells, and the iron ensures a good oxygen supply to these cells.

Spinach is a functional food

In a study published in the journal Food & Function, researchers summarize the protective effects of spinach, based on the activity of its naturally occurring phytochemicals and bioactive compounds. They state that these spinach-derived substances can reduce oxidative stress, DNA damage, and disease. They’re also able to positively influence the expression of genes involved in metabolism and inflammation. In addition, they trigger the release of satiety hormones, which can make you feel more full and satisfied.

Power Spinach Smoothie

  • 2 large bananas, previously peeled, sliced, and frozen
  • 1 heaping handful spinach (about 1.5 cups)
  • 1/2 of a large apple, chopped (or 1 small – use your favorite variety)
  • 7 large strawberries, sliced
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • optional: 1 Tablespoon ground flax
  1. Make sure you have a strong, powerful blender that will blend up the frozen banana and apple. I like the Ninja or Vitamax blender.
  2. Peel the apple if you do not prefer the skin to be in your smoothie. I did not peel mine. Blend 1 banana, the spinach, apple, 1/4 cup almond milk, and flax together until smooth. Add more milk if it is too thick. Scrape down the sides of the blender as needed. Pour equally into 2 glasses.
  3. Rinse out the blender and blend 1 banana, 1/4 cup almond milk, and the strawberries together until smooth. Scrape down the sides of the blender as needed and add more milk if it is too thick. Pour the strawberry smoothie on top. Serve immediately.
  4. Super fun smoothie picnic ready!

Put all the ingredients together with this handy blender!

Power smoothies are super awesome!
