Spinach Power Smoothie

Spinach is good for omelets and smoothies especially before a fitness routine. Here is a yummy smoothie recipe and the cool benefits of spinach.

Per the Department of Agriculture, three cups of raw spinach provide approximately 20 calories, less than one gram of fat, two grams of protein, three grams of carbohydrates, and two grams of fiber

In addition to its many vitamins and minerals, spinach provides antioxidants that link to anti-inflammation and disease protection.
It Helps Protect Against Diseases
In a study published in 2016 in the journal Food & Function, researchers summarized the protective effects of spinach.4 They stated that the compounds found in spinach could reduce oxidative stress. They also positively influence gene expression—or the “turning on” of certain genes—in metabolism and inflammation.
Spinach Smoothie
Ingredients
- 3 Tbsp rolled oats
- 2 Tbsp sliced almonds or 1 Tbsp almond butter
- 1 medium ripe banana
- 1.25 oz. frozen raspberries or blueberries (1/4 cup)
- 2 oz. frozen strawberries (about 2 large or 6 small)
- 1/2 cup cold water*
- 2.5 oz. fresh spinach (2 1/2 cups packed)
- 6 ice cubes
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon + 1/8 tsp vanilla extract – for blueberry version
- 1/8 tsp almond extract – for raspberry version
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a high speed blender (if using blueberries add cinnamon and vanilla, if using raspberries add almond extract). Blend until well pureed. Serve on fun picnic.
