Super Protein Fitness Power

When I think of proteins I usually think of meats and even tofu. However, there are lots of foods that have protein that can be used to replace meats all together. Either way protein maintains and repair tissues after a fitness routine because after lifting weights for instance, this activity can tear tissues on a microscopic level and protein plus sleep helps repair that.

Protein is one of a complex group of molecules that do all kinds of jobs in your body. They make up your hair, nails, bones, and muscles. Protein gives tissues and organs their shape and also helps them work the way they should. In short, protein is one of the building blocks that make you strong.

Why your body needs protein

  • Build – Protein is an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage and skin.
  • Repair – Your body uses it to build and repair tissue.
  • Oxygenate – Red blood cells contain a protein compound that carries oxygen throughout the body.
  • Digest
  • Regulate

Protein makes skin glow

Include fish, lean meats and eggs. Protein foods like these supply the amino acids (building blocks) you need to make collagen, which keeps your skin strong. Oily fish like salmon, mackerel, sardines and trout contain beneficial fats, which promote skin hydration, resulting in plumper looking skin.

According to the Dietary Reference Intake report for macronutrients, a sedentary adult should consume 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight, or 0.36 grams per pound. That means that the average sedentary person should eat about 56 grams of protein per day, and the average woman should eat about 45 grams.
