Yummy French Toast Picnic

Every picnic must have a stack of delicious French toast. This cool recipe combines traditional bread with the most tasty ingredients such as cinnamon and nutmeg. Here is the most popular picnic dish recipe

  • 6 slices challah bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 Tbsp butter

Banna Fosters Topping

  • 4 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 bananas firm
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

Churros

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsps ground cinnamon

Buttermilk Syrup

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp corn syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup whipped cream
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • Mix together egg, milk, salt, spices and vanilla.
  • Heat a lightly oiled griddle or skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Dunk each slice of bread in egg mixture, soaking both sides, leave in egg mixture for at least 30 seconds.
  • Heat a skillet (with a lid) over medium-high heat, and add half the butter.
  • Place french toast in preheated pan, with butter, and cook on both sides until golden.
  • Cover the pan with a lid between sides. This will cook the inside of the bread, making it less soggy
  • Serve hot on a picnic

Bananas Foster Topping Directions:

  • In a small skillet, melt the butter.
  • Add the brown sugar and stir until dissolved into butter.
  • Add banana slices to pan, stirring so they are covered in caramel sauce.
  • Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon.
  • Bananas are done when they are warmed through.
  • Pour bananas foster mixture over French Toast.

Churros Topping Directions:

  • Mix cinnamon and sugar together in a shallow dish
  • Remove the French toast from the pan and immediately dip in the cinnamon sugar, turning to coat completely.

Buttermilk Syrup

  • Combine all ingredients except baking soda in a saucepan
  • Bring barely to a boil stirring the whole time
  • Remove from heat
  • Stir in baking soda, it will get frothy, but will settle down some
  • Serve hot with fresh fruit and whipped cream over hot waffles.
